Learn to Hunt: Deer

Are you a new hunter and interested in hunting deer? Come learn the fundamentals with hands-on skills training at this overnight training course. 

This course will conclude with a direct connection to a mentor for you to go hunting with this fall.

New Hunter Education Instructor Training

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department is offering a New Instructor Training Course for people interested in volunteering to teach Hunter Education in Vermont.

The training will take place Tuesday, August 30, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Parro’s Gun Shop at 601 US-2, in Waterbury.

Policies and procedures, field techniques and teaching methods will be covered to give instructors the tools to teach future hunters how to have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Learn to Hunt: Waterfowl & Upland Game

Are you new to hunting waterfowl and upland game birds and want to learn more? Then this is the course for you!

Volunteer instructors and F&W staff will guiding you through a day of learning techniques for harvesting, processing and cooking your game bird.

This course is geared toward new adult hunters and families.

Game Species Habitat Improvement Demonstration Tour

Join staff from VT Fish & Wildlife and National Wild Turkey Federation on a tour to view and discuss various habitat projects implemented to improve habitat for game species like deer, bear, turkey, and other wildlife.

The group will walk through large patch cuts, a prescribed burn area, released apple trees, and other recently completed habitat projects. Please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear. We encourage you to bring water, a journal for notes, and a desire to learn more about improving habitat for wildlife.

Hubbardton Battlefield: History and Habitat

Enjoy a walk with department wildlife biologist Travis Hart and a historian from the Hubbardton Battlefield to discuss the important habitats across this historic WMA as well as the history of the Hubbardton Battlefield itself. Please wear close-toed shoes as there will be some time in the forest. Bug spray and water are recommended. This walk is appropriate for any age.

Women Owning Woodlands Habitat Walk

Join VT Fish & Wildlife habitat biologists and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) for a walk to highlight habitat management opportunities for private landowners. Information on NRCS programs that can help support habitat projects with funding as well as other resources available to Vermont landowners will be offered.

Please dress for the weather and wear suitable footwear. We encourage you to bring water, and a journal for notes. As well as an eagerness to learn about how to control invasive plants in your backyard.
