Welcome to Vermont Bald Eagle Restoration Initiative Eagle Tracking Map

Background: Eagle In Cage Five young eagles were fitted with radio transmitters before they were released from the hack site at the Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area in Addison. Each transmitter sends out a different signal that allows VBERI partners and volunteers to track the movements of each eagle.

An interactive map has been created for each eagle showing where the eagle has traveled since being set free. The map also provides observation notes of the eagle's behavior if the bird was seen.

Here is some background information on each of the eagles with transmitters:

Transmitter Eagle Origin Arrived in VT Released On
Eagle 106 Maryland 5/11/06 6/16/06
Eagle 995 Massachusetts 6/4/06 6/20/06
Eagle 928 Maine (orphan) 6/9/06 6/20/06
Eagle 979 Maine (orphan) 6/9/06 6/20/06
Eagle 133 Maine 6/9/06* any day now
*Eagle 133 was much smaller than other Maine birds and was not transferred to hack box until 6/14/06.

How to Use the Map:

VBEI Eagle Tracking Locator maps specific eagle's movement since being released. To the left of the map are 10 action buttons to help you navigate the map.

To see map legend:

Click on the fist button "Legend/Layer List" to show the map's legend.

To see information about eagle sightings:

Click on "Identify Features" and then place cursor on colored dot and left click. The dot represents where the eagle was located. A table will appear showing the eagle's coordinates, what behavior was observed and the date it was observed (may need to scroll right to show the information). It may take a few tries clicking within the dot to display the information, so don't be discouraged. Have fun!
