The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department takes a lead role in conserving our natural
world for present and future generations. Key to achieving this is the department's
Nongame and Natural Heritage Program.
By working together, our dedicated staff track and protect rare, threatened, and
endangered species and natural communities. We help conserve Vermont's wildlife
heritage by protecting and promoting nongame wildlife (animals that are not fished
or hunted) as well as Vermont's native plants and natural communities.

The Nongame Wildlife Fund is a critical source of funding for the Fish & Wildlife
Department's Nongame and Natural Heritage Program. Donations to the Nongame Wildlife
Fund help us:
- Inventory a wide variety of species including turtles, salamanders, bats, and
butterflies to ensure they are there for future generations to enjoy
- Improve and protect nesting sites for loons, peregrine falcons and other birds
- Learn about natural communities - resulting in information for local planning
- Help interested landowners manage rare plant populations
- Develop educational materials for Vermonters of all ages
