DIY Suggestions for Removing Felt Soles

You can save on labor by removing felt soles yourself and then taking your footgear to a cobbler who will adhere new soles.
1. Carefully cut and separate felt from toe of boot with sharp knife such as drywall knife.removing felt step 1
2. Use pliers (visegrips are best) to pull felt while starting to cut from toe between felt and sole.removing felt step 2
3. Firmly grip and pull felt from boot bottom while continuing to cut towards heel.removing felt step 3
4. Remove any debris from boot bottom with sander or grinder.removing felt step 4
5. Boot bottoms must be clean if adhesive is to be applied when attaching replacement non-felt soles. removing felt step 5
6. Attach cleats such as “Korkers,” or take your boots with felt removed to a listed cobbler who will adhere non-felt soles.
