Welcome to the
Waste Management Division

The Waste Management Division oversees the use, treatment and handling of hazardous and solid wastes. The Division performs emergency response for hazardous materials spills, issues permits for federal and state programs regulating hazardous wastes, solid wastes, and underground storage tanks, and manages cleanup at hazardous sites under state and federal authorities, including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA, also known as Superfund).
If you cannot find what you are looking for through the WM-ID, appointments to review division files can be made by calling Cheryl Hamilton at (802) 241-3443. The Division receives many requests for information and does require an appointment. These are generally scheduled for 9am or 1pm and must be completed by 4pm.

ANNOUNCEMENT
WM-ID (Waste Management Interactive Database)
June 12, 2009

The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is pleased to announce the release of Waste Management Interactive Database or WM-ID.  This web-based tool enables the public to access up-to-date environmental information compiled and monitored by the Department. Property specific information concerning contaminated groundwater sites, hazardous materials spills, and regulated underground storage tank facilities located in Vermont can now be accessed through the WM-ID. This information is helpful to community groups and private sector business interests such as real estate, banking or environmental consulting. Users can tailor their search by entering one or a combination of search criterion to narrow down results or produce a specific list of records.  In addition to the improved search and query functionality, the database is updated on a daily basis.
