Visit Vt Fish &Wildlife at the Yankee Show this Weekend

ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. – The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department is urging visitors to the Yankee Sportsman’s Classic show this weekend, January 16-18, in Essex Junction to stop by their exhibits and attend their seminars.

“We are looking forward to talking with as many people as possible at the show,” said Nicole Corrao, information and education specialist with the department.  “It’s a great opportunity for us to share the latest information about fish and wildlife, and it gives people a chance to talk to us about fish and wildlife issues.  Our wardens, biologists and other staff will be at our exhibits.”

Fish & Wildlife will have three seminars on Saturday, January 17 – on Vermont Deer and Moose at 12:00, Women Hunters Q&A at 1:00, and Whole Deer Processing at 3:00.  The seminars will cover the status of deer and moose, tips for women interested in hunting, and techniques for preparing delicious local venison for meals.

Hunters, anglers and trappers will be able to buy their 2015 licenses and be entered into a raffle to win an L.L. Bean fishing kayak or a new shotgun.

The Yankee Classic will be at the Champlain Valley Expo in Essex Junction.  Show hours are Noon to 7 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.  Learn more about the show at:  (http://yankeeclassic.net).

New at the show this year -- a fish chowder cooking competition will be sponsored by the Vermont Fresh Network, LCI and Vermont PBS -- to share their enthusiasm for Lake Champlain and all Vermont waters as sources for food worthy of protection and restoration.  If you can cook up a good fish chowder, be sure to check the rules and preregister at (www.mychamplain.net/chowder).
