The license buying process is easy. You will need:
- A printer to print your license. Printing requires Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer. Click here to download the free Acrobat Reader software.
- A credit card. We accept Visa or MasterCard for payment of license fees.
Nice to have ready if you have one:
- Your Conservation Identification Number or Card. (Click here to look up your Conservation ID)
- Your license number from your previous license purchased online.
To Purchase a Hunting, Combination, Archery or Trapping License
- You must have held a previous hunting, combination, archery or trapping license or have passed a State approved safety course.
- There will be a place on the application for you to enter your previous license number or you may certify that you have held this type of license previously or passed a State approved safety course.

To Purchase a Fishing-only Licenses
- Anyone can apply for fishing-only licenses. There is no requirement for a previous fishing license.
- If you are purchasing a term fishing license, make sure you select the day you plan to start fishing. Term fishing licenses run consecutive days.
IMPORTANT Things to Remember
- To type your information as you wish it to appear on your license. If you type in all small case, it will appear in all small case.
- The license you print from your printer is your official license and you should carry it together with a photo ID whenever you go fishing, hunting or trapping.
- Please make sure you SIGN your printed license. It will not be valid without your signature.

Purchase a Mentored Hunting License
NOTICE! Mentored Hunting License are only available to a Resident or Non Resident who:
- Has never successfully completed a hunter safety course.
- Has never held a hunting license in Vermont or any other state or province.
NOTE: Purchase of a mentored hunting license does not allow the purchase of big game hunting tags. Mentored license holders must use the tag on the license of the fully licensed adult hunter who accompany them when hunting.

Confidentiality of Information:
Information collected for the sale of department hunting, fishing, trapping licenses and permits is not public information under Vermont law 1 VSA § 317. The department does not sell or give names and addresses collected for the sale of licenses and permits to third parties. Periodically, Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department (or its designated agent(s)) may use contact information from license-holders to conduct surveys and research, or send information about license sales and hunting and fishing programs involving Vermont fish and wildlife. The information obtained from these surveys will provide public input on fish and wildlife management actions and human interactions for the management of Vermont’s fish and wildlife resources.
Department license agents cannot use information in the POS database for any purpose other than those required to sell Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department Sporting Licenses.
